Aging is accompanying stage of human life. Every age has its own beauty and charm. Aging makes beautiful human with wisdom, gentleness and childlike naivety. At older age, humans possess an in-depth knowledge which is given only to experienced people. Many older people in human history have great achievements.
The elderly belong to the most vulnerable sectors of our society. Dignified and secured old age is unrealizable dream for many of them. The elders went through a long and difficult way of life; they dedicated their most productive years to their family and country. Traditionally, elderly have been treated with great respect in Georgia. Political developments and economic hardship in recent decades has changed the situation. The elders in our country have lost all their savings, which will be spent in the elderly. The average pension is below the minimum wage and does not allow living independently on it. Many families live below the poverty line, so the elderly, who need the care, are the extra burden for their families. There are frequent cases of discrimination against the elderly; age, economic, physical or psychological discriminations. The most unfortunate for the elderly is loneliness, lack of communication, and the fear not to be worthless for society.
A group of older women who have passed their lives in the Second World War, the communist repression, civil and separatist wars founded the Aged Women’s Association “Deserving Old Age”.
“We would like that old age for many older people in our country will not be the expecting the end of their lives, but the end of his life. We want to support each other, make them feel the warmth and joy and take care of the marginalized older women. We have a feeling that the community needs us. We would like to say about the problems of the elderly and fight for the rights of the elderly. We can use our resources to help ourselves and others. Share our accumulated knowledge and experience to young generation. Target Group and our priorities are vulnerable, helpless, careless, lonely older women who are forgotten by the state and society and their number is increasing day by day” – Tatiana Siradze, Foinder of the Association “Deserving Old Age”, Honored Doctor and veteran of the WWII.
The Aged Women’s Association “Deserving Old Age” was founded on April 2, 2009.
On April 21, 2009 it registered as a non-profit (commercial) legal entity.
